Redes, Galicia, Spain

Discovering a little hamlet, unplanned, previously-unknown is part of the magic of travel for us.  Wandering around the countryside of Galicia, just north of A Coruña, we started heading out onto one of the multitude of little peninsulas that jut out into the Atlantic.  Sometimes we're guided by an interesting marker on the map, sometimes by nothing at all.

Redes was a tiny point we found on the map after wandering nearby Pontedueme for a bit. We are so glad we ended up seeing this little Spanish gem.

Situated between A Coruña and Ferrol, Redes is set on a beautiful harbor.  We saw it with bright, colorful boats gently rocking on the water and marvelous blue skies; the lush, green, late-summer trees were the icing on the cake.  One deep, blue building anchors the plaza in the center of town.

This is a favorite type of stop for us -- no big tourist sites, no crowds, but a peaceful, quiet setting on the water.  After we visited, we learned that it has served as a filming location (Julieta).  I can see why!
