Cangas de Onis is pleasantly situated between the dramatic Picos de Europa and Asturias’ spectacular beaches in Northern Spain. The cobbled, Roman bridge with its Alpha and Omega symbols spans the deep-blue-green Sella river and its rocky banks. A visit to nearby Covadonga’s in-cliff bascilica and the stunning Lagos de Covadonga is a must. Evening found us relaxing on a bench in the town square, watching as children played and sidrerias poured their famous bebidas from a great height. The nearby Parador de Cangas de Onis makes for a good home base and is, itself, a historical site to explore.
